NYC Demanding “Private Match” Contributions from Local Nonprofits

Governments and donors have been unwilling to fund nonprofit’s full cost of providing services under various guises including “we fund only programs” or “we do not cover overhead.”  They add up to the same thing:  nonprofits are expected to lose money on their services.  But where do nonprofits make up the difference if government and donors now expect the nonprofit to be the subsidizer?

Here is a New York Daily News article that describes how New York City is making this phenomenon stark and visible.  Will this finally prompt nonprofits to take a stand  to end this drip, drip, drip erosion of their sustainability?
