Ohio: A great state for nonprofits

As a great end to the month, I wanted to do a bit of a “compilation” blog post, tipping off my readers to great work done by organizations around Ohio.

Community West Foundation
Community West Foundation is an amazing organization that strives to advance the health and well-being if its community. I am a big fan of their meaningful and innovative efforts within Cleveland, Ohio. Community West Foundation recently issued a $100,000 “Challenge Grant” to the Cleveland Foodbank. If funds raised by Cleveland Foodbank equated to $100,000 or more, they would be matched, dollar-to-dollar, by Community West Foundation. To date, donated funds total over $200,000 and will be matched up to $400,000 if raised by September 30th. A truly inspiring effort from both organizations and the community. I had such a great time speaking at their annual meeting this month.

The Columbus Foundation
The Columbus Foundation goes beyond aiding individuals, families, and businesses in planning their charitable giving. It has take a leadership role in defining the value of central Ohio’s nonprofits and especially cultural institutions in fulfilling the regions development slogan:  a great place to work, live, and raise and family.  Here is a short video they prepared that celebrates one aspect of what makes this community the distinctive place it is – openness.

Finance Fund
Local Columbus organization Finance Fund was selected as one of the first 20 community lending organizations in the United States to receive $1 million for credit to qualifying small businesses under the new Intermediary Lending Pilot Program. Finance Fund plans to allocate the funds to areas in Appalachia Ohio to support the financing needs of small businesses. Congratulations to Finance Fund!

While I do call Ohio home, my venture into nationwide speaking has moved forward with TEDxClaremontColleges, this past September 23. I look forward to visiting new nonprofits and hopefully will be writing a nationwide nonprofit shout out blog post in the near future!
