August Celebrates Social Enterprise in Central Ohio

August provides us three opportunities to celebrate the energy, excitement, and innovation of social enterprise in Central Ohio.  The month kicks off August 2 at the Columbus Museum of Art with the community celebration of progress in establishing social enterprise in Central Ohio.  On August 19 the public has an opportunity to see the ideas and ambitions of the latest set of new social entrepreneurs on stage at CCAD’s Canzani Center.  And street festival lovers on August 20 can have fun and meet a host of local social entrepreneurs at McFerson Commons in the Arena District.  All events are free.  Registration is encouraged.  Here are the details.

August 2  Positioned to Prosper  Join the Center for Social Enterprise Development (CSED) at the Columbus Museum of Art for a celebration of Central Ohio’s advancements in social enterprise. This is Central Ohio’s premier networking event for people who want to encourage businesses that make an impact.  The event features release of the second annual State of the Social Enterprise in Central Ohio, an in-depth report on local entrepreneurial activities and opportunities in the past year.

This event is free to attend and light refreshments are provided. Networking and refreshments will begin at 5:00 pm, and the program will begin at 6:00 pm.  Register free at this link.

August 19  SEA Change Accelerator Pitch Day  Want to learn more about social entrepreneurship, network with like-minded innovators, or just celebrate the movers & shakers in our community? Celebrate the debut of up to 12 home-grown social enterprises spurring change in our neighborhoods and beyond at the SEA Change Accelerator Pitch Day.  That evening will showcase the latest cohort of SEA Change, a Northeast Ohio-based social enterprise accelerator facilitated by the Center for Social Enterprise Development that combines online classes with in-person connections and resources. These finalists will showcase their social enterprises & compete for up to $75,000 in funding, and they need your help to take home the prize.

Join us at 5:30pm at CCAD’s Canzani Auditorium for an evening of high-octane social enterprise networking, and the chance to see history in the making. Registration is free at

August 20 Sea Change Festival  We’ve all heard of TOMS, the company that gives a pair of shoes to someone in need for every pair someone purchases. And you’re probably familiar with local examples such as Freshbox Catering, CleanTurn, and Hot Chicken Takeover as well. But did you know there are actually over 85 companies like these right here in our own backyard?

We’re bringing them together to create the largest give back celebration Central Ohio has ever seen. Window shop and support good causes at the same time. Feast on food truck culinary excellence. Compare local iced coffees and craft beers. And enjoy some of Columbus’s most talented musicians live on stage. Join the Movement at McFerson Commons from 11:30am to 8:30pm on August 20!

Be sure to attend at least one of these great events this August.  Keep up to date on all these social enterprise events on Facebook and Twitter.
