SocialVentures Announces Seventh Philanthropitch Columbus Finalist
SocialVentures announced that the seventh and final Philanthropitch Columbus finalist is Freedom a la Cart. Freedom a la Cart is one of five nonprofits organizations to participate in SocialVentures’ Nonprofit Catalyst program over the past year, to develop and prepare to launch a new social enterprise concept. The organization’s concept entails opening a new café, in addition to the organization’s existing catering business, to empower survivors of human trafficking by providing employment opportunities and the chance to build a new life of freedom and self-sufficiency.
Over the past five years, Philanthropitch, the social impact fast pitch competition, has been on a mission to scale innovative nonprofits in communities around the nation. Presented by Kiwanis Club of Columbus and co-hosted by SocialVentures, the first annual Philanthropitch Columbus will take place at the Speaker Jo Ann Davidson Theatre in the Riffe Center Theatre Complex on March 4, 2019. Freedom a la Cart joins the previously announced Philanthropitch Columbus finalists, Economic and Community Development Institute (ECDI), Equitas Health, Furniture Bank of Central Ohio, RT Central Ohio, Ruling Our eXperiences (ROX), and YMCA of Central Ohio.
Robert Shenton, SocialVentures Board Member, Managing Partner, Plante Moran, Central Ohio Region, and Kiwanis Member, made the announcement during tonight’s SocialVentures’ Nonprofit Sustainability Showcase event. The celebration took place at Vue Columbus, and featured presentations from four Nonprofit Catalyst teams: Center of Hope (Victory Ministries), First English Lutheran Church, Freedom a la Cart, and See Kids Dream. In addition to these presentations, 13 additional nonprofit organizations operating social enterprises participated in the Showcase portion of the event, to share their products and services with the more than 200 attendees.
